Sunday Feasts & Simple Joys – A Chicken Machboos Story from My Kitchen

Have you ever noticed how the happiest moments in life are rarely the biggest ones?

They aren’t found in expensive celebrations or perfect plans.

They quietly arrive in the little moments…

A home filled with the aroma of freshly cooked food.

A dining table waiting to welcome the people we love.

A warm conversation that stretches a little longer than expected.

A cup of Karak tea that somehow makes the whole day feel complete.

This Sunday, as I stood in my kitchen in Sharjah preparing a beautiful Arabian lunch, I found myself smiling.

Not because everything in life is perfect.

But because I have learnt something over the years…

Joy isn’t something we wait for. It is something we create.

So I decided to create joy—one dish at a time.

The first pot on the stove was my favourite Chicken Machboos.

As the onions slowly turned golden and the whole spices released their beautiful fragrance, my kitchen became a reminder that good things take time.

Just like life.

We often want instant answers, instant success and instant happiness.

But the most beautiful things—whether it’s a delicious meal, a meaningful relationship or a dream worth chasing—always need patience.

Every grain of rice slowly absorbed the rich stock, just as every life experience quietly shapes the person we become.

While the Machboos rested, I prepared a bowl of

Fresh Arabic Salad.

The vibrant colours instantly brightened my kitchen.

It reminded me that life becomes beautiful when we welcome variety.

Every ingredient has its own colour.

Its own flavour.

Its own purpose.

Just like people.

We don’t all have to be the same to create something beautiful together.

Next came the cool and refreshing

Mint Yogurt Raita.

Life teaches us another lesson here.

Not every situation needs more heat.

Sometimes what we really need is calmness.

A gentle response.

A peaceful heart.

A quiet mind.

The raita isn’t the star of the meal, yet the entire meal feels incomplete without it.

How many people in our lives are just like that?

They may never seek attention, but their presence brings balance, comfort and peace.

Then came my little bowl of

Homemade Daqoos.

Spicy.

Bold.

Full of character.

It reminded me that challenges are a bit like spice.

Too much can overwhelm us.

But just enough makes life interesting and helps us grow stronger.

Every experience—pleasant or difficult—adds flavour to our journey.

And then…

The sweetest part of the afternoon…

Umm Ali.

Golden.

Creamy.

Comforting.

A reminder that every season of hard work deserves a moment of celebration.

Too often we finish one goal and immediately rush to the next.

Today, I chose to pause.

To enjoy the dessert.

To celebrate the ordinary.

Because life is too precious to keep postponing happiness.

Finally, I poured myself a warm glass of Karak Tea.

I sat quietly for a few minutes.

No phone.

No rushing.

No ticking checklist.

Just gratitude.

Sometimes the most productive thing we can do is simply pause long enough to notice how blessed we already are.

Living in Sharjah has reminded me that every place has something beautiful to teach us if we are willing to learn.

Some lessons come from people.

Some from experiences.

And sometimes…

They come from a humble meal shared with gratitude.

So today, I want to leave you with a little Sunday reminder.

✨ Don’t wait for a special occasion to cook your favourite meal.

✨ Don’t wait for someone else to create happiness for you.

✨ Don’t wait for everything to be perfect before you smile.

Celebrate today.

Celebrate your family.

Celebrate your health.

Celebrate your progress.

Celebrate the simple privilege of sitting together around a table.

Because when we learn to appreciate the little joys of life…

Life quietly gives us more reasons to smile.
