Sometimes, the most beautiful food memories are not created in fancy restaurants or elaborate celebrations. They are created in the quiet moments of everyday life.

The other day, while walking through a supermarket in Sharjah, I came across a simple little bun filled with cream cheese, olives, and pickles. At first glance, it looked like an ordinary snack. Soft, fluffy bread. Creamy filling. A few slices of olives and pickled cucumber.
But as I held it in my hand, I realized something.
Food is never just food.
It is comfort.
It is care.
It is a silent way of saying, “I thought of you.”
As women, wives, mothers, daughters, and caregivers, we often believe that love must come in grand gestures. But over the years, I have learned that love often hides in the smallest things.
A cup of tea after a long day.
A favorite dish prepared without being asked.
A lunch box packed with care.
Or a simple bun made specially for someone you love.
When I came home, I decided to recreate this snack in my own way. Fresh, simple, and homemade.
Cream Cheese, Olive & Pickle Bun
Ingredients
* 1 soft milk bun or burger bun
* 2 tablespoons cream cheese or labneh
* 4–5 sliced green olives
* 3–4 slices pickled cucumber
* Fresh lettuce leaves (optional)
* Thin cucumber slices (optional)
* Freshly ground black pepper
Method
1. Slice the bun into two halves.
2. Spread a generous layer of cream cheese or labneh on both sides.
3. Arrange the sliced olives and pickles evenly.
4. Add lettuce and cucumber for extra freshness if desired.
5. Sprinkle a little black pepper.
6. Close the bun gently and serve immediately.
That’s it.
Simple.
Fresh.
Delicious.
The Secret Ingredient
The truth is, the secret ingredient is not the cream cheese or the olives.
The secret ingredient is intention.
When food is prepared with gratitude and affection, it nourishes more than the body. It nourishes relationships, memories, and hearts.
As I continue my journey in a new country, adjusting to a new life, I am slowly rediscovering the joy of simple cooking. Not elaborate meals. Not complicated recipes. Just wholesome food that brings people together.
Sometimes, healing begins with a prayer.
Sometimes, it begins with a walk.
And sometimes, it begins with a simple homemade bun shared with someone you care about.
Until next time…
Cook with love. Serve with gratitude. Eat with joy.
With love,
